The Certification Award Program explained

The Service

This Certification Award Program is a membership network of websites owned by small businesses and tradesmen who adhere to strict privacy, safe shopping and fair trading practices laid down by Local Trader. The certificate is reassuring and makes consumers feel comfortable with using a Local Trader certified and monitored website. This can result in increased sales for Local Trader members.

We offer neutral, trusted, third party verification of website privacy, safe shopping and fair trading practices to insure a quality and trouble-free experience for consumers.

NOTE: This service INCLUDES full complaint mediation, unlike other sites which merely check that you have a privacy policy in place. Such seal programs are worthless. When your customer files a complaint about something which went wrong with a job, we will do our best to help you resolve the issue.

Who may apply

This award program is aimed at small businesses, including tradesmen, shops, garages, taxis, web designers, pubs etc., any business with an annual turnover of less than £600,000 or $1,000,000.

Your type of business must not be on the
prohibited content list and you must comply with our terms & conditions.

Requirements

In order to apply for a seal, you must be able to fulfil all of the next five requirements:

1.) The Local Trader certified award program is an online web-based facility which requires that you own and maintain a website (we can provide you with this).

2.) You must ensure that your contact details, including your email, remains up to date and valid.

3.) You must publish your privacy policy and place a link to it underneath every form from where you are collecting user data.

4.) You must sign an electronic acceptance form to confirm that you will adhere to the Local Trader
Code of Practice for the duration of your Local Trader membership.

5.) You must also sign an electronic acceptance form to confirm that you have read and agree to the Local Trader Terms and Conditions for the duration of your Local Trader membership.

The Joining Procedure

Membership is issued to a website. Multiple websites by the same owner require separate memberships and fees.

In order to be considered for membership of the Local Trader Certified Award Program, you must be able to fulfil all five (5) requirements listed above. Complete the Local Trader membership
application form and pay your membership fee.

Subject to conditions, we will accept your application on the basis that it would satisfy all our strict criteria and that you pledge to offer your customers a first class trouble-free service and adhere to the
Local Trader Code of Practice. Based on that pledge, we will issue you with the Local Trader seal with the coveted 5 star rating. This will be issued instantly and you may proceed to add the seal to your website immediately.

To maintain your rating, you must ensure that your standard of service continues to adhere to the Local Trader Code of Practice. When something goes wrong which may result in the loss of a star, removing the Local Trader seal from your website is not in your interest. Because even with a four, three, two or one star rating, you are showing that you are trying to deliver your service during tough times.
